Today is the last day of the month and Trinidad and Tobago has recorded approximately 60 murders…a figure that has been described as an all-time high for T&T.

Reports quote Homicide Officers as saying that last year’s tally for the corresponding period was 52.

Central Division recorded the highest number with 12 while the Southern, Northern and Port of Spain Divisions accounted for the rest.

According to reports, Police believe the detection rate in solving murders continues to be low because members of the pubic who witness murders or who may have information are afraid to come forward.

They also believe that if the border protection agency is set up, it could decrease the guns and drugs coming in.

Last year, 495 people were murdered.
