The joint trade union movement is urging employers to explore all options before deciding to go the way of job cuts. Some energy companies have started laying off employees citing the steady fall in oil prices globally.

A foreign steel firm operating locally has also laid off hundreds of employees because of decline activity in the sector.

JTUM President General, Ancil Roget, speaking at a news briefing this week said job cuts should not be the first move amid the tough economic and financial scenario.
