He made the shocking revelation during Wednesday’s sitting of the Joint Select Committee on Social Services and Public Administration.
The JSC inquired into the regulation of geriatric care facilities.
The response prompted JSC Chairman, Paul Richards, to ask what steps were being taken to urgently address the development.
Programme Administrator, External Patient Programme, Beesham Seetaram, provided details on how the situation was being handled.
It was also revealed by Inspector Two in the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, Gashyia Siwaju, that nine of the geriatric care facilities that are not licensed receive funding from the state.
