President General of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union Ancil Roget said this morning that members of the Joint Trade Union Movement will not be attending a meeting this afternoon to discuss issues in the energy sector.

Roget made the comments this this morning at a press conference at the Communication Workers Union (CWU) on Henry Street.

In a letter dated January 19 and signed by Labor Minister Errol Mc Leod, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissesser invited representatives of the trade union movement and workers organizations, to meet with her this afternoon at the diplomatic center.

Yesterday Roget described the invitation as disrespectful.

He claimed that Minister Mc Leod chose to direct the invitation to stakeholders when he was fully aware of the structure of unions.

According to Roget Unions were not properly addressed or respected.

He further revealed that he felt that the meeting was a PR stunt by the Government.

Roget said that JTUM had discussed issues regarding the economic situation and the energy sector and would share the results of those discussions with the public when they were finalized
