Describing all the parties in the current House of Representatives as self-serving, the MSJ has stated that they have acted dishonorably with the passage on Friday June 13th of the Judges Salaries and Pensions Amendment Bill and the Retiring Allowances (Legislative Service) Bill.
According to the MSJ, the constitutionally enshrined institution to address the issue of remuneration and all other terms and conditions of employment for Judges and Members of Parliament is the Salaries Review Commission (SRC). It said that it is not Prime Minister Kamla Bissessar, Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Rowley, and other members of Parliament.
The Party stated that the fact that the SRC is slow at making its deliberations is no excuse, since thousands of citizens are every day subjected to the slow nature of justice in Trinidad and Tobago.
The MSJ agreed that all working people including those in public life from Judges, and MP’s to entry level public servants and daily paid workers ought to be remunerated fairly.
It said the passage of the two Bills on Friday 13th June created greater inequity and was an injustice to hundreds of thousands of working people and retirees.
