The Acting Prime Minister, Labour Minister Errol Mc Leod is insisting that the recent shutdown of operations at the Immigration Building on Frederick Street, Port of Spain, is illegal.
Errol McLeod made the comment during the weekly post cabinet news briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair, on Thursday.
The Public Services Association maintains its members will not carry out their duties once health and safety issues are not addressed.
Mr. McLeod said the government is standing firm on its position that the ongoing shut down of the Immigration Offices as orchestrated by the P.S.A is illegal.
The Acting Prime Minister also cited the injunction granted by the Industrial Court in this matter.
He said the government is not aware nor is there any record that any employee of the Immigration Department has made any reports on threats to their health and safety.
Mr. McLeod said the action of the union has caused serious inconvenience to members of the public and the country.
