The Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) has added its voice to calls for an independent investigation to be launched into allegations that an “unethical business venture” occurred between attorneys and inmates involved in prison litigation against the state.
LATT said full disclosure of all allegations and supporting facts is a first step.
The body said it expects the full cooperation of all stakeholders to bring clarity and an early resolution of the issues.
LATT said its statements is no finding of fact, nor casts any aspersions on the character of any persons.
Prime Minister, Kamla Persad, has given instructions h to the Attorney General (AG) for him to meet with the Acting Solicitor General, the Commissioner of Prisons, the Inspector of Prisons, the Minister of Justice and the Chief State Solicitor to address concerns related to prison litigation.
