A Lieutenant Colonel with a Master’s Degree in criminology has been selected as the candidate for the United National Congress, for the St. Joseph constituency, ahead of this year’s General Election in Trinidad and Tobago.

Speaking at the UNC’s new Virtual Public Meeting “On the Ballot” on Thursday 21st May, 2020, Political Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar announced the selection of Lieutenant Colonel Ahloy Hunt as the party’s candidate. She said he would restore people-centered representation in the constituency of St. Joseph. Hunt is the brother of former PNM Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Gary Hunt.

Lieutenant Colonel Hunt served in the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment as commanding officer second infantry Battalion among other ranks. He has also worked with the Strategic Services Agency (SSA) as the Director of the National Operations Centre and the Deputy Director of Operations. “The current crisis facing our nation requires innovation, experience, unity of purpose and commitment to best restore progress to our nation. Lieutenant Colonel Ahloy Hunt has the right mix of experience serving our nation as a member of our Defence Force, and has the drive and dedication needed to effectively represent the people of St. Joseph in an equitable manner,” said the UNC in a media statement.

The UNC says it will roll out the St. Joseph campaign today, while the party will continue its screening process in the coming days.
