Debate on the controversial Life Sport Programme began in the House of Representatives on Friday afternoon.
Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar has ordered that the Finance Ministry carry out an audit into the initiative.
The programme has also been removed from the control of the Sport Ministry and placed in the purview of the National Security Ministry.
Diego Martin North East Member of Parliament, Colm Imbert led the private motion on the contentious programme which has been plagued by several claims of corruption and death threats to persons attached to it.
During his contribution Mr.Imbert claimed details from the Auditor General’s Report on the programme revealed troubling facts related to proper accountability.
Mr. Imbert also quoted comments reportedly made by National Security Minister, Gary Griffith, pointing out the presence of criminal elements involved in the programme.
