By this evening, citizens of Trinidad and Tobago will know if they will soon be legally permitted to be in possession of up to 30 grammes of marijuana.

The bill, which was passed at around 9.30 pm on Wednesday, during a sitting of the House of Representatives, sought to decriminalise up to 30 grammes of marijuana or the possession of four female plants.

The bill is being debated in the Senate today and if passed it will be sent to President Paula Mae-Weekes for enactment into law. The Opposition has vowed to support the legislation but suggested it be sent to a joint select committee for details to be added.
