Long lines for passports

by | Jul 4, 2014

NEWS GRAPHIC 6Scores of people lined the pavement outside the Immigration office on Frederick Street, Port of Spain, yesterday, some as early as 3am, with the hope that their passports would be ready.

Due to the labor issues at the organization many of them left empty handed.

According to reports when the doors opened up around 7.30 a.m. and people were allowed in, police had to be called out as tempers flared.

One police officer could be seen trying to ensure that that people did not spill out onto the sidewalk.

The Police had to be called out following an outburst by frustrated persons who were fed up with the long wait.

Reports state that the line which had earlier stretched up to the wall of the St Mary’s College was shortened a bit after the elderly were invited to sit inside the building but even they got fed up and left.

Immigration officers are said to be working from 7am to 11am until they are relocated.
