Chairman for the Congress of People (COP) Arouca/ Maloney constituency council, Rufus Foster walked off the stage and publicly endorsed Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan at last night’s COP leadership debate at Center Point Mall in Chaguanas.
Mr. Foster said he was pulling out of the campaign because he did not want to disrupt the hopes of party members.
Last nights discussions was the final debate that the COP hosted in the lead up to the party’s internal elections on June 29th.
Based on developments leading up to last night’s exit of Mr. Foster from the leadership race the party stated that it was not surprised by his actions.
It disclosed that there was a suspicious link between Mr. Foster’s Campaign Manager Rudolph Hanamji and Kirk Sinnette of Mrs. Seepersad-Bachan’s team.
A chain of email which is alleged to be interactions between both camps was released by the party last night during the debate.
One of the emails revealed that Mrs. Seepersad-Bachan was ahead in the leadership race.
While another said Mr. Foster did his job and kept incumbant leader Prakash Ramadhar angry and distracted from the debated.
The COP is asking whether the new politics the party ascribes too.
