MAN DROWNS WHILE TRYING TO SAVE HIS SON

by | Apr 1, 2014 | 1 comment

NEWS GRAPHIC 7A 49-year-old man drowned yesterday after saving two of his relatives at Maracas Bay.

Phillip Babwah of Claxton Bay was at the beach when at approximately 9 a.m  his son and daughter-in-law got into difficulty.

Babwah along with two men went to their assistance; however after pulling them from the water, Babwah and the men were pulled under the water.

The men were helped by beach-goers to the shore.

Babwah was rushed to hospital but died on arrival.

Eyewitnesses stated that the lifeguards were slow in responding.

They claim that even though a woman alerted the lifeguards from the time the son and daughter-and-law got into difficulty, they arrived after bathers had already pulled Babwah from the water.

My name is Bela Ponyi, I was the guy who pulled Philip Babwah and the other guy out the water. I was there for a job that I completed on Sunday and decided to go to the beach for the first time. I notice the girl was having trouble but I was unsure if I could save her without drowning myself. When I see the father going out for her I then notice he was in trouble. No life guard was on site and no one seem to help so I take a small flout from one of the guys and went to get them . I had a difficult time or bringing both guys back to shore but when I got to shore the people pushed me away and attempted CPR. They did a horrible job on doing the CPR and I asked for water to clean his face so I could perform CPR but the people were to busy taking pictures and video .
