A 30-year-old man of West Bayshore, Marabella, is accused of setting his home on fire with his significant other inside.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday. The accused was said to be at home with his 26-year-old girlfriend of St Croix, Princes Town when they got into an argument. The woman told police her boyfriend threw gasoline in the bedroom after stating he would set the house on fire with both of them inside. Moments later he lit the propellant with a lighter.
The would-be victim ran out of the house. She received burns to the left foot. The suspect also escaped on foot and was burned on both legs and the right hand. He sought treatment at the San Fernando General Hospital where he had to be sedated by doctors.
The house was completely gutted by the blaze, which spread, destroying a second house and damaging two others.
Firefighters from the Mon Repos Fire Station managed to prevent any further destruction. The suspect, once awake, will undergo a psychiatric evaluation at hospital.
Marabella police are continuing investigations.
