A 51-year-old man is dead after allegedly poisoning himself and his 11-year-old son yesterday in Manzanilla.
Our partners at Looptt.com report that at approximately 1pm yesterday officers were on patrol along the Mayaro/Manzanilla Road when they saw a Hyundai Tuscon had collided with a coconut tree on the roadside.
When the officers stopped to render assistance they observed Mootilal Rattansingh and his 11-year-old son with white substances by their mouths.
The two were rushed to the Mayaro District Hospital, however, Rattansigh was pronounced dead on arrival.
His son was taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where he was treated, and is expected to be transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
The young man was said to be in a critical condition up to 9 o’clock this morning.
A white powder was found inside the vehicle.
Police believe that Rattansingh may have poisoned himself as well as his son, as earlier in the day, he had given a female relative an ominous message that she would not see him or his son again.
Police were also told that Rattansingh and the child’s mother were separated.
The child is a pupil of the El Dorado Hindu Primary School.
Investigations are continuing.
