All schools were open for the new school term.
This is according to the Minister of Education Anthony Garcia.
He revealed that at the beginning of the new term which started yesterday all primary and secondary schools, including those affected by sewer, electrical and other problems last term were opened and in a state of readiness.
He also reported a full turnout of teaching staff at the Vistabella Presbyterian Primary School in San Fernando, with 400 out of 475 students reoccupying the school building since it was closed last term, due to electrical problems.
And classes at the Santa Rosa Government Primary School fully resumed today following early dismissals last term due to a malfunctioning water pump, toilets and plumbing problems.
However there were reports that roadblocks in the St. Patrick district affected students’ attendance in 11 schools.
The Minister thanked the Education and Facilities Company Limited, contractors and officials from the Ministry of Education for the schools’ reopening.
The Education Minister also acknowledged that many teachers carried out their duties under trying circumstances and called on students to take their school work seriously.
