Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Kazim Hosein is calling on both garbage collection contractors and the Municipal Corporations to do their part in ensuring clean communities.
Speaking with News Power Now this morning, he said that he has received complaints from various areas across the country.
The Minister says besides being an eye sore, the situation could cause a health hazard.
He disclosed that the lapse in garbage collection has been ongoing for some time and there has been a decision by the Ministry to take a zero tolerance approach and ensure that communities are cleaned at all times.
He went on to say that while some work quite hard it is lax garbage contractors that are presenting a problem.
Minister Hosein said that illegal dumping has been a serious concern for some time and strong action will be taken on this issue.
