Works and Infrastructure Minister, Dr Suruj Rambachan, reveals an audit into projects carried out in the Unemployment Relief Agriculture Programme found out that some contractors failed to deliver on performance.
He says last year the Food Production Ministry gave out 289 projects for cleaning rivers, drains and building agricultural access roads to 57 contractors.
However, the Ministry decided to conduct an audit before paying the contractors.
Some contractors protested outside the parliament demanding their monies.
However, Minister Rambachan yesterday afternoon told reporters the audit discovered differences between payment requested and work completed.
Dr Rambachan assured the contractors will be paid but the government will do what is necessary to ensure the nation gets value for money.
