Ministry says a large number of senior citizens homes are non-compliant

The Elderly

An assessment done by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services revealed that there are many senior citizens homes which have not met required standards under the guidelines which govern their operation.

Cherrie-Ann Crichlow-Cockburn, Minister of   Social Development and Family Services, made the revelation in the Senate this week.

She was asked by the Opposition, given reports of substandard care and management at several Senior Citizens Homes, what are government’s plans to improve the monitoring and regulating of these homes.

Minister Crichlow Cockburn added that follow up work is carried out regularly and unannounced to ensure standards are complied with.
