Ministry Will Seek Alternative, Says Garcia as Maxi Operators’ Actions Affect Students.

by | Nov 26, 2019

Minister of Education, Anthony Garcia, says Caroni, St. Patrick and South Eastern Educational Districts were affected by Monday’s protest action by maxi taxi drivers who are responsible for transporting children to school.

He explained that to date the state has paid over $38 million to the drivers for their service.

However, he revealed that one of the factors that has contributed to a delay in payment is the late submission of claim forms by the drivers, adding that there are sometimes errors on the forms.

Minister Garcia gave the update while speaking at a news briefing at the Ministry’s St Vincent Street Head Office on Monday afternoon.

The Education Minister also noted that the state will be forced into a corner following the action of the maxi taxi operators.

Minister Garcia said the Ministry will be exploring alternative options.
