Morvant Laventille Secondary School to reopen next week

ttuta presidentReports emerged yesterday that contractors who worked on a retaining wall at the Morvant Laventille Secondary School had been shot at.

Reports indicated that teachers had not turned up for duties because of safety fears.

According to Minister of Education Dr. Tim Gopeesingh work on the wall at the school had been hindered, leading to the closure at the Institution.

In an interview with News Power Now this morning, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association Devanand Sinanan assured that school will resume by next Monday.

Mr. Sinanan also commented on the situation at the Cunupia High School.

Reports indicate that a 14 year old student was taken into custody after he attacked his schoolmate and bit off a piece of the child’s flesh in full view of other students shortly after 9.50 am on Tuesday.

Mr. Sinanan revealed that the School has been plagued by violence. He called on the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to get to the root causes of the problem.

He disclosed that problems included bad behavior and underachieving students.

He said that support systems have not been put in place.
