Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Rowley, is calling for stricter enforcement of Housing Development Corporation regulations when it comes to dealing with unruly tenants.

Dr. Rowley was one of several political figures who visited the site of a fire at an HDC apartment complex in Trou Macaque, Laventille Tuesday morning which resulted in the deaths of 4 persons.

Reports say the fire was deliberately set by a man who threw a Molotov cocktail into the 5th floor apartment after allegedly having a confrontation with his brothers.

The blaze has since left 4 persons dead….… They have been identified as 10 month old Destiny Young, 2 year old Denisha Young, 15 year old Akim Young and 46 year old Delicia Charles.

On visiting the scene of the tragedy Dr. Rowley demanded a thorough investigation into the tenants at the building.

Meanwhile, the Housing Development Corporation is moving to provide accommodation for persons affected by Tuesday’s early morning fire at one of its Trou Macaque, Laventille units.

In a News Power Authority interview Tuesday, HDC Managing Director, Jearleen John, told us the Corporation is doing its part to help those affected.

Ms John confirmed the affected persons will be relocated to Oropune units.

Meanwhile, Laventille West Member of Parliament, Nileung Hypolite, in a News Power Authority interview Tuesday dismissed claims that the situation is gang related.

Speaking about the tragedy during the daily police briefing Tuesday, Public Information Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Sergeant Wayne Mystar said investigators also believe that the fire was deliberately set.

In visiting the scene of Tuesday incident, Housing Minister, Dr. Roodal Moonilal, stressed the need for fire escapes to be installed on all HDC buildings.

Dr. Moonilal gave the assurance that the affected families would be relocated to other HDC apartments.
