Sheriffa Ali gave birth to her son at the San Fernando General Hospital, Ali is now asking why her baby was placed in ICU and then later died.
Ali, of La Paille Road, Jodan Hill, Princes Town, yesterday blamed nurses at the hospital for her son’s death and she is demanding a thorough investigation by the South West Regional Health Authority
34 year old Ali said she was admitted to hospital on April 12. The following day labour was induced, but she had no contractions.
Baby Sajid who was due on April 29, was born on April 15, at 4.34 pm, and weighed seven and a half pounds. It is believed the infant suffered severe brain damage due to lack of oxygen after being in distress for several hours in the birth canal.
On Sunday, after 12 days with tubes hooked up to his tiny body at the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit of the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH), baby Sajid Suresh Rampersad quietly passed away leaving his mother Sheriffa and father Suresh Rampersad with bad memories and many unanswered questions.
