Opposition Member of Parliament, Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, is now calling on the Education Minister to give a realistic expectation regarding the opening of all schools as the new term is set to commence.
In a media release the former Education Minister says Minister Anthony Garcia must indicate whether repairs and improvements have been completed or nearing completion to ensure a prompt resumption of classes at all the nation’s schools.
He says this is particularly crucial in light of the fact that such works began late, during the month of August, by the Education Facilities Company Limited.
Dr. Gopeesingh is also calling the Minister to state whether secondary school students can expect to be furnished with textbooks as well as computer laptops or whether they will continue to be denied this essential modern learning tool.
He says on the eve of the start of the school term, the Minister of Education must account to the nation on these and other crucial matters impacting this vital sector.
Meanwhile, News Power Now was able to contact Minister Garcia for comments on the issues raised by Mr. Gopeesingh.
Although he was not willing to entertain the questions based on the media release, he did indicate that all was going according to plan in preparation of September 5th opening of the school term.
