In a media release the organization stated that the festival has been embraced because of the universal message that ultimately light will triumph over darkness; truth over untruths and good over evil.
It went on to say that at this Divali 2014, there are many issues that require light to illuminate the truth – all of which are linked to the absence of good governance, transparency and accountability.
In the MSJ’s view, however, while it is necessary for citizens to know the truth of the scandals and issues that are in the public domain, a further step is needed.
The MSJ stated that the light of the deyas is needed to point us in the direction out of the darkness that we are in.
It further stated that darkness is not due only to the failure of individual leaders and governments; it is also the failure of our First Republic.
In closing the MSJ asked citizens to be guided by the lights of the deyas towards the Second Republic!
