Multiculturalism Minister pays tribute to legendary Mas man Wayne Berkeley

A great loss to the cultural fraternity was how Arts and Multiculturalism Minister, Winston Gypsy Peters, described the passing of 70 year old legendary Mas man, Wayne Berkeley at his Belmont home last evening.

Mr Berkeley captured the prestigious carnival large band of the Year title in a record-eleven times.

In 2000 he suffered a severe stroke which left him paralyzed on his right side.

His outstanding work has been used at major theatrical productions in the United States and Britain.

Minister Peters noted that Mr Berkeley’s input in the cultural fraternity could not be ignored, adding that he would be  sorely missed.

Minister Peters said The National Carnival Commission would liaise with the Berkeley family during their time of loss.
