Atiba Pantin was shot and killed while transporting pan equipment belonging to ten time Panorama Champions, Witco Desperados. According to reports, he had been hired by the management of the steelband to move the equipment from its former Laventille Road headquarters, to its new location at 21-24 Queen’s Park East, on Sunday.
Reports are that while traveling along Rudolph Charles Link Road- the road that links Laventille with Belmont, Pantin and the driver of the vehicle in which the equipment was being transported, were ambushed by three gunmen. Both men were shot and subsequently rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital where Pantin died while undergoing emergency surgery. The driver remains hospitalized and is said to be in critical condition.
Investigators are uncertain of the motive for the gun attack, however investigations are continuing.
