National Security Min: Most Laventille residents happy with army presence

Gary Griffith officialThe Minister of National Security, Gary Griffith has said the military’s role is not to fight wars.

His comments come in the wake of reports that members of the Defence Force are operating without police present in parts of Laventille.

Some residents of the community stated that since the death of Lance Corporal, Kayode Thomas, soldiers have been in the community conducting searches and abusing them.

Minister Griffith said police officers are participating in operations.

Minister Griffith said he has not received any reports of abuse.

He added most of the residents in the community are happy with the high presence of the protective services.
