Representatives from the Ministry’s Food Card Department Chyrel Allicock and Alvin Dain appeared on the Power Breakfast show to inform citizens about the new card.
Ms. Allicock said it will provide greater security to recipients.
The Biometric Smart card will be given to current recipients of the smart card. The Ministry will be collecting Biometric data from recipients in July.
Mr. Dain stated that the collection of data does not mean that card holders can be tracked.
Ms. Allicock added that special machinery will be put at point of sale locations to assist in the smooth transition to the new card.
