The Ministers of National Security and Education met yesterday to discuss school violence and what can be done to reduce incidents at the nation’s schools.
The high level meeting came days after a student of the Success Laventille Secondary School was shot dead by two gunmen.
Parents at the school kept the children at home on Monday, calling for the intervention of police and education ministry officials.
Minister of National Security Minister Gary Griffith announced that the creation of a unit to reduce school violence.
He said this unit will aid the ministry in detecting and analyzing threats at schools, adding that not all schools are considered high risk.
The re-introduction of extra-curricular activities was being looked as another solution.
Minister of Education Dr. Tim Gopeesingh said future meeting are planned to fast track this idea.
He added that a crisis response unit will be created
