The Opposition leader has appointed six Opposition Senators. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wade Mark, Former Chairman of the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation Khadeeja Ameen and Former MP for Arima, Rodger Samuel are among the six.
The new speaker of the house is former Attorney General, Brigette Annisette- George.
Paul Richards took to social media yesterday, sending words of thanks to his well wishers. He said he is humbled by the honour and will do his best to make the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago proud. He said the great thing about T&T’s democracy is that naysayers also have their opinions and voices and so even these can be used to spur on greatness.
Politicians are told by President Anthony Carmona to quickly put aside their various differences for the good of the nation.
Speaking at the ceremonial opening of the eleventh parliament this afternoon, His Excellency said an excellent example of team work was displayed recently by politicians in Dominica which was hammered by Tropical Storm Ericka.
President Carmona warned local politicians must stop the blame game and work towards national development.
Commenting on the issue of crime, President Carmona admitted that a good place to start is at the home by instilling positive values.
