Despite a scheduled meeting between the National Infrastructure Development Corporation and the Highway ReRoute Movement for January 7th, there is word today that NIDCO President, Dr. Carson Charles has assured the completion of the Debe to Mon Desir segment of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin by May 2016.
Dr. Charles said the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin was originally expected to be completed this year. However delays, including protest action by the Highway Re-Route Movement (HRM) and filing of lawsuits against the State by the HRM were the result of a slow start with construction.
Charles also said the Debe to Penal portion of the highway extension will be opened to the public by the middle of this year. Other segments including St Mary’s to Grant Road and La Brea to Point Fortin will follow afterwards.
The NIDCO head said the construction work was expected to be completed within budget.
