Education Minister, Anthony Garcia, tells reporters no final decision has been reached on addressing over staffing at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
Minister Garcia says he acted as a facilitator between the Oilfields Workers Trade Union and UTT management during deliberations on the issue today.
He explained that he supports proper industrial relations practices being complied with in this development.
However, Minister Garcia admitted that talks between the OWTU and UTT are scheduled to continue and he is hoping that an amicable resolution will be reached.
He also responded to calls from the trade union movement that he should resign from the position.
Before the talks today OWTU President Ancel Roget spoke with reporters and insisted that possible retrenchment of over 250 UTT staff members due to financial constraints will have serious implications.
