Public Relation’s Officer of the People’s National Movement Faris Al Rawi has said that the Constitutional Amendment Bill came like a thief in the night.
The Bill was introduced in Parliament by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday.
It includes changes to the Parliamentary system by having fixed terms for a Prime Minister, the right to recall Members of Parliament and a run-off vote.
Mr. Al Rawi said it closely resembles the section 34 fiasco.
The PNM PRO said that the Bill has to be examined carefully before the party can decide whether it will lend its support.
However he added that he is deeply disturbed that no information was presented to the opposition prior to the introduction of the Bill.
The opposition Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, Marlene Mc Donald this morning explained why her party does not agree with the proposed changes to the Constitution
Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102.1 FM; she said changes will allow a Government who lost the reins of power to hold on for some time.
Ms. Mc Donald stated that this Bill is geared towards helping the Government maintain power.
