Yesterday much of the Manzanilla stretch was still under water and in some areas there was rushing water pouring into the sea.
Sandbags were destroyed and so were parts of the roadway.
CEO of the ODPM Dr Stephen Ramroop has stated that relief has reached many persons in need.
However he said that they were still trying to reach others in need of aid in Manzanilla.
Destroyed roads have made access to the area possible only by boat.
Dr. Ramroop spoke about the progress of the relief efforts yesterday morning.
He revealed that some people were shuttled to shelters or other rescue areas.

He disclosed that first responders put themselves at great risk to rescue those in need.
Chief Disaster Management Coordinator Earl Hernandez responded to claims that relief was not coming soon enough.
He maintained that he would not put anyone in harm’s way to help flood prone residents.
He advised those still waiting for assistance to remain patient, assuring that help is on the way.
