Finance Minister Colm Imbert is today saying that online shopping is not good for this country.
Speaking in the parliament last evening, Minister Imbert said the practice leads to economic leakage in developing countries.
He said the money being spent online does not benefit this country.
He also said online shopping has a negative impact on employment locally.
The bill to implement the new 7 percent online tax was passed in the parliament last night.
Also passed last night was the new tax on people earning 1 million dollars or more and 15 percent and 20 percent respectively, on locally produced tobacco and alcohol.
