The Chief Game Warden is suspending the opening of the hunting season carded for October 1st until further notice.

A statement from the Housing and Environment Ministry today explained the suspension has come in light of the existing state of emergency and has been deemed necessary for the protection and safety of all concerned.

There may be criminal elements the statement noted who may wish to exploit the opportunity that the opening of the hunting season may provide.

The suspension was also taken to avoid any circumstance the release indicated which could cause a confrontation between hunters and security forces engaged in exercises in forested environment.

It added when the state of emergency is lifted the decision would be reviewed and actions taken in the best interest of all.
