Opposition identifies flaws on Miscellaneous Provisions Marriage Bill

Debate is taking place in the parliament on the Miscellaneous Provisions Marriage Bill, 2016.

Leading off the discussion was Dr Bhoe Tewarie, Member of Parliament for Caroni Central.

He claimed that the bill fails to include several social and family issues which pose serious challenges to society.

Public Utilities Minister and Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds who also contributed to the debate said while there is deliberations over making adjustment to the age of marriage others are of the view that child marriage should be done away with.

Meanwhile, Opposition MP, Prakash Ramadhar described the debate of the bill at this time as a distraction by the government.
