The Opposition People’s National Movement is expressing concern about the timing of government’s move to pass legislation relating to constitutional reform.
Debate on the constitution amendment bill 2014 is scheduled to begin soon.
Areas in the bill include a fixed date for general elections, two term limits for a Prime Minister, the recall of Members of Parliament and a run-off vote.
PNM Political Leader, Dr. Keith Rowley, speaking at a news briefing on Thursday, said with a general election less than a year away, the move seems disruptive.
Dr. Rowley said the run- off vote proposal will result in a costly matter for the state.
