Member of Parliament for Princes Town, Barry Padarath is accusing the Prime Minister of being out of touch with citizens.
He made his comments as the Prime Minister prepared to host a Christmas event at Stollmeyer’s Castle on Friday.
Speaking with News Power Now, Mr Padarath said he believes it is insulting to the people of Trinidad and Tobago to have an event of this nature at a time like this.
He added that the opposition will not be attending on a matter of principle.
In response, Minister of Planning and Development Camille Robinson-Regis said the opposition’s stance is unfounded.
In a News Power Now Interview, she noted that the opposition has not had the same objections for other events held during the year.
She added that furthermore, the event is not as extravagant as the opposition would have the public believe.
Minister Robinson-Regis denied claims that the Government is out of touch with the population.
Instead she pointed to the food card initiative which persons throughout Trinidad and Tobago, inclusive of constituents of opposition MP’s, will also benefit from.
Mrs Robinson-Regis also commented on the opposition’s plans to protest the event.
