The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services reveals it has received over one hundred reports of cases of elderly abuse.
This is for the period September 2016 to date.
Most of the cases reportedly took place at the homes of elderly persons while others happened at Homes for the Aged.
This was revealed in the Senate this week by Cherrie –Ann Critchlow Cockburn, Minister of Social Development and Family Services.
She explained that these reports are investigated thoroughly and appropriate action taken.
The Minister noted that regular monitoring of these institutions is carried out to ensure they comply with required standards.
