Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon, believes there was no need to continue debate in the Senate on A&V Oil and Gas Limited in light of the fake oil fiasco.

Debate on the Private Motion to suspend the Operations Contract to A&V Oil and Gas Limited, pending investigation into the situation, ended in the Senate on Tuesday.

Mrs Gopee-Scoon, during her contribution to the motion, said continuing the debate was unnecessary as the contract to the company had already been suspended by state-owned Petrotrin.

However, Opposition Senator, Khadijah Ameen, expressed concern with the Prime Minister’s decision to call one of the parties involved when the issue arose in 2017.

In response to the comments made by Ms. Ameen, Minister Gopee Scoon defended the Prime Minister’s action.
