There is now a strategic plan in place locally to tackle the Chikungunya virus.
It involves a partnership between the Health and Local Government Ministries. Officials say this country has three confirmed cases. In December 2013 the mosquito-borne illness was first detected in St Martin. Since that time most Caricom countries have reported cases of the disease.
Health Minister, Dr Fuad Khan, said the collaboration between the Ministries will utilize the services of regional corporations. He was speaking at the weekly post cabinet news briefing held at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair on Thursday afternoon.
Dr. Khan also urged citizens to keep their surroundings clean and help eliminate breeding sites for mosquitoes.
