The PM reportedly prayed with Dr Kublalsingh when she got her chance to see him.
Reports also state that the highway was not brought up when the two met.
Speaking with reporters PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar maintained that her appearance at the hunger strikers bedside does not mean the Debe to Mon Desir segment of Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Point Fortin will stop.
Following her visit to the hospital PM Persad-Bissessar released a statement saying if there was a way to end the impasse without compromising the interests of the nation she would have, adding that her Government has tried.
She pointed out that it is far easier for someone who isn’t in the position of making decisions to say “stop the section of the highway”.
The Prime Minister said the consequences of cost and delay to the highway’s completion to the country, it isn’t that easy and even necessary as advised by technical experts
whose views and reports do not concur with those of the Highway Re-Route Movement (HRM).
She noted that the Government met with Dr. Kublalsingh on more than one occasion.
Views that a meeting with the Prime Minister would end Dr. Kublalsingh’s hunger strike were dismissed.
She claimed Dr. Kublalsingh has maintained that any action he takes will only cease when he gets his way.
