A government minister claims there are attempts by some to incite fear and panic among citizens surrounding moves to reform the constitution.
Some of proposals in the bill include two term limit for a Prime Minister, fixed date for general elections, the right to recall under-performing Member of Parliament and run-off elections in constituencies where candidates do not obtain 50 percent of the electorate’s vote.
Leader of Government Business and Housing Minister, Dr Roodal Moonilal, made the point during debate on the controversial Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2014 on Monday.
Dr Moonilal also responded to critics who questioned the timing of the bill.
