The safety and lives of those working along the Southern Main Road in La Brea have been threatened yet again.
Contractors reported death threats yesterday reportedly from those demanding more local labour on the project.
The $10 million project, which is overseen by the Ministry’s Programme for Upgrading Road Efficiency (PURE) unit, is already 60 percent complete and, before this latest roadblock, had been scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.
Director of PURE Hayden Phillips speaking with News Power Now this morning confirmed that the contractors were threatened yesterday .
He revealed that unfortunately this was not a solitary occurrence.
He disclosed that any demand for more local labor was unfounded given the fact that over 80 workers from La Brea was working on the project.
He lamented the fact that workers on various projects in different areas of the country have had their lives threatened because of nefarious characters in the communities.
