Police Complaints Authority says illegal wrecking of vehicles has been ongoing

The legality of actions taken by police officers and their accompanying wrecking services continue to be questioned. Over the years, citizens have complained and argued over unscrupulous and what some say are the illegal removal of their vehicles, at times even when vehicle owners or drivers show up to claim their vehicles before being towed. Speaking on the Power Breakfast morning show today, Director of the Police Complaints Authority, David West explained that citizens have the legal right to have their vehicles relieved by tow trucks, on the spot, once they claim them before they are moved.

Mr. West said while most unmarked tow trucks are privately owned, their operations are in fact legal, once the drivers are accompanied by a police officer.
