The Warning comes from the Police Service, Public Information Officer, Sergeant Wayne Mystar.
Speaking at Thursday’s weekly police media briefing at Police Administration Building, at the corner of Edward and Sackville Streets, Port-of-Spain, Mr. Mystar said “We’ve had a few reports that as a result of meetings arranged via popular social networking sites…date rapes (and) offences have occurred,”
Teenagers were also cautioned against accepting drinks from others if they had not seen it being poured and served, because this significantly reduces the chance of the drink being ‘spiked’ with date rape drugs which often have no colour, smell, or taste.
“Teenagers, do not allow persons to bring drinks for you. Try to supervise the (mixing or pouring) of what you are drinking, even if it’s not alcoholic because any drink can be spiked,” Mystar cautioned.
The three most common date rape drugs are Rohypnol, gamma hydroxybutyric (GHB) and Ketamine.
