NEWS GRAPHIC 15Amid growing concern about crime, especially murders, one political analyst is suggesting that citizens must do their part for progress to be made against lawlessness.

It is a point highlighted by Rishi Maharaj who spoke during a News Power Now interview this afternoon.

Mr. Maharaj admitted that while the state has a key role to play in ensuring safety and security, citizens cannot afford to adopt a hands-off approach where addressing crime is concerned.

Mr. Maharaj further suggested that the state review the climbing expenditure on national security.

In the last budget presented by the People’s National Movement, the national security Ministry received the largest financial allocation.

The political analyst said the PNM administration, upon assuming office, had critical challenges to deal with. He said the government must remain focused on the task at hand.
