This was announced today by the Mayor of Port of Spain, Louis Lee Sing, during the City Corporation’s monthly council meeting at City Hall this morning.
Mayor Lee Sing said the statue would be placed in Woodford Square as part of the celebrations marking the late Dr Williams’ 100th birthday which was celebrated on September 25th .
The Port of Spain Mayor described Dr. Williams as a visionary who was a key architect in the development of modern Trinidad and Tobago.
The Mayor said this would be integral in linking the past with the future of our nation.
Speaking on exactly when the statue would be unveiled Mayor Lee Sing said he does not have an exact date at this time because the City Corporation is waiting for the statue to be donated.
However, he said the Corporation would like to have the statue unveiled long before Dr. Williams’ 101st birthday.
